Microneedling works by harnessing the body's natural healing response to create positive changes in the skin. The process involves using the Dermatwist, a device with tiny, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the outermost layer of the skin, known as the epidermis, and the underlying layer, called the dermis. When these micro-injuries are made, the body perceives them as injuries and triggers various responses. One of the responses is the release of growth factors and cytokines, which are signalling molecules that stimulate collagen and elastin production. Collagen is a structural protein that provides support and strength to the skin, while elastin is responsible for maintaining its elasticity and flexibility. As the body begins to repair the micro-injuries, it synthesizes new collagen and elastin fibres, improving skin texture, firmness, and resilience. In addition to this, the micro-injuries create temporary micro-channels in the skin. These channels allow for enhanced absorption of topical skincare products, such as serums or creams, making them more effective in delivering their active ingredients to deeper layers of the skin. Microneedling also promotes neovascularization, which is the formation of new blood vessels. This increased blood flow to the treated area further supports healing and improves overall skin health. Microneedling is a safe procedure. We always recommend using an experienced Certified Therapist to perform the procedure, like at Karma Medi Spa.

Upon arrival at Karma Medi Spa, our Certified Therapist will greet you at the door. You will then be taken to the appointment room for a consultation. This helps your Therapist understand your skin concerns and goals and gain knowledge about your medical history. These factors help us obtain a good judgment of whether Microneedling with the DermaTwist is suitable for you. Step one is to cleanse the skin of any makeup or debris to start the procedure. A numbing cream will be applied topically to help mitigate discomfort. Based on your skin goals and desired results, the Therapist will choose the most appropriate needle depth of the DermaTwist. The device will create micro-channels with the needles through controlled motion and depth, penetrating your skin. Once the process has been completed, your Certified Therapist place cooling sheet mask to help soothe the skin.

Microneedling treatment last approximately an hour.

You may feel some subtle prickling of the skin or even a slight bit of pressure. Some patients could experience minimal bleeding or develop some redness while undergoing Microneedling. However, it is common and usually resolves quickly. Please note that the face is numbed to minimize discomfort.

You can expect your face to be pink to red for approximately 1-3 days. We recommend avoiding the sun post-treatment. For the following days, we suggest that a 50+ sunscreen is applied to continue protecting the skin. Avoid harsh skincare products with active ingredients or exfoliants until the skin heals.

The number of appointments required is based on your skin goals. There are many different skin types, and for some individuals, that may be a few appointments with significant spacing in between and for others, it can be more frequent. Typically, we recommend 3 treatments for optimal results. You will need 3-6+ treatments for skin conditions such as pigmentation or acne scars. Your Therapist will be able to provide you with a customized plan during the consultation to streamline the correct number of appointments that are tailored to your skin's needs. The results of Microneedling can vary based on individual skin types, needs, and goals. Each person's skin is unique, and therefore, outcomes may differ. However, noticeable improvements can typically be observed within a week after the treatment. These positive changes may include reducing fine lines and wrinkles, improving overall skin texture, and creating a more even skin tone.   To ensure long-lasting results, it is essential to maintain a consistent skincare regimen and be mindful of excessive sun exposure. Over time, the skin will naturally produce collagen and elastin, leading to a beautiful and radiant complexion. Regular follow-up treatments help maintain the achieved results and ensure the continued improvement and vitality of the skin.

Side effects may include mild discomfort or pain during the procedure, skin dryness, and temporary swelling and redness in the treated area. These side effects are usually temporary and tend to resolve within a few days after the treatment.
